Abstract
Transana is a CAQDAS package designed specifically for the analysis of audio/video data. It provides a transcriptioon tool for generating written transcripts which are temporally linked with the audio/video for synchronised playback. Each audio/video file can have multiple transcripts associated with it. Multiple audio/video streams can also be associated with one another and played back synchronously. Transana provides standard code, retrieve and seach facilities similar to those found in other packages and includes a system for note taking. Transana is open source and low cost and is recommended for projects whose sole or primary data type is audio/video.
